- Find letter of recommendation writers (request letters a month prior to the internship deadline)
- Find out about which summer project interests you and why
- Talk about the institution and goals. Make sure you research the institution before applying
- Contact someone from the institute you are applying
- Reach out to your network of professors to see if they have contacts at the place you are applying
- Draft your essays and have someone look at it before submitting your application
- Write down deadlines
